Passenger information in the vehicle

DiLoc®|OnBoard is a complete turnkey, web-based solution for passenger information in trains. We deliberately rely on redundant operating devices (HMI). A dedicated PIS train server is therefore not required. This saves a hardware component and at the same time provides redundancy. Our approach is manufacturer-independent, so that a wide variety of hardware products can be used.

Intelligent software

The DiLoc®| OnBoard software and the computing power are located in our HMIs, which are usually located in the two driver's cabs of a train. The intelligence is therefore redundant and if one HMI fails, the other HMI takes over in just a few seconds. Another advantage is the fact that the end devices (PIS hardware components) can be very simple, as the HMI is intelligent and takes over all the computing power.

Complete communication

The central DiLoc®| Motion system provides the vehicles with the necessary data in real time, such as timetable updates, scheduling changes, forecasts and connections. The use of the open MPI (Mobile Passenger Information) interface enables, for example, localisation data or diagnostic data to be transmitted from the vehicle to the DiLoc server in real time.

In addition to the software, we also supply the entire range of necessary hardware such as control units, TFT monitors, LED outdoor displays, amplifiers, routers, video surveillance, intercom stations, etc.

DiLoc®| OnBoard is 100% web-based and has a modular structure. Functions can often be put into operation with just a few settings and used immediately. DiLoc®| OnBoard communicates with various vehicle platforms on the train side and with a wide range of software solutions on the land side - preferably with DiLoc®| Motion, of course.

Timetable updates

Timetable changes cannot always be planned and may be required spontaneously in an agile environment. DiLoc® distributes timetables directly to a vehicle, to a group of vehicles or to all vehicles within a few seconds. Each driver then has the option of deciding for themselves when to accept the updates.

Dispositive changes

Our products on the train and landside communicate closely with each other. This means that scheduling changes, such as changed departure times, additional stops, shortened journeys, etc., are displayed directly on the driver's HMI and also on the TFT in the passenger compartment.

Connections

Passengers are reliably and safely informed about connections at the next station. The country-specific requirements for legibility and design are taken into account. Of course, multilingual displays are also possible. The data basis for the display of connections is organised from the land side, e.g. via DiLoc®| Motion, by communicating with the local or nationwide data hubs. This ensures that only connection options that actually exist are displayed.

MPI interface

Our MPI interface (Mobile Passenger Information) is open and accessible to everyone. It ensures direct data exchange with the landside via two channels. Real-time data and timetable data are securely managed and made available to the respective partner. For security reasons, communication with the landside is only ever initiated by the train - this means that cyber attacks from outside cannot have any effect.

Localisation data

Localisation can be based on various data providers. Satellite-based localisation (GNSS) is a standard today, but localisation using interlocking data is also possible. We have already successfully connected several interlocking software products (Siemens ILTIS, BBR, Thales Command 900, etc.) to our systems. Odometry can serve as a fallback level that can be used at any time. This means that the position data of all trains equipped with DiLoc|OnBoard is reliably available.

Diagnostic data

Another category of data can be exchanged between the train and shore side via MPI. Diagnostic data makes the need for action available in the control centre in real time. An overview of all relevant data from the PIS components can be viewed at any time in the fleet manager. This saves resources and time.

Hardware solutions

Passenger information in the vehicles is covered by the DiLoc®| OnBoard system solution in the hardware area - regardless of whether it is a refit or new equipment. TFT vehicle monitors and audio components are manufactured and used by us. All other components are sourced from qualified suppliers.

Powerful operating devices make it possible to dispense with a dedicated PIS train server and thus save on hardware - at the same time they create redundancy and thus increase safety.

Networks

Network planning is generally carried out in a ring structure. Various options are available here. The desired level of security is achieved via high-performance switches and routers, as well as the creation of various virtual networks for additional services such as video surveillance, passenger counting etc.

LED outdoor displays are available in various sizes.

InnoPDCom audio amplifier

The ELA multifunctional device (amplifier & cab unit) from cn-mobility GmbH enables seamless integration of acoustic communication with the passenger compartment. This means less space is required and lower costs, as the number of devices required is reduced.

Thanks to the modular design, the device can be configured according to individual requirements. This means that customers receive their customised solution quickly and efficiently. Should repairs or maintenance be required, the modular structure enables simple and cost-saving interventions. In addition, the device can be completely dismantled, which maximises recyclability and thus reduces the ecological footprint.

In terms of sustainability, we deliberately focus on a high degree of modularity, which makes the ELA devices easy to repair. Redundancies in the area of power supply units and the network guarantee high availability and reliability.

Intercom stations InnoICom

InnolCom was developed to improve the complex communication in trains and thus create an optimal interface between passengers and staff.

The design of our PA intercom station includes a redundant network connection and a redundant power supply. In addition, an external power supply without PoE provides even more flexibility.

The solution also has an I/O interface with one input and two configurable I/Os. Another highlight is the customisable colour design and pattern selection for the LEDs, which can be adapted to individual preferences or requirements.

Our solution offers advanced echo, noise and interference cancellation that ensures clear communication even in demanding environments. The microphone unit offers a maximum speaker output transmission of 16 kHz (as opposed to the usual 8 kHz). The frequency response of the acoustic output is linearised, which significantly improves speech intelligibility.

The system also fulfils the TSI specifications and therefore offers maximum reliability and conformity.

CCTV/video surveillance

Live camera images can be displayed on the HMI. The cameras can be called up manually by the train driver if the vehicle is at a standstill. Various events can trigger the activation of the cameras for the train driver. To ensure optimum positioning and illumination, we can commission an illumination study.

Frequently asked questions
about DiLoc®| OnBoard

Many customers have upgraded vehicles during operation. Before a modernisation project, it is always advisable to carry out an inventory analysis so that we can check exactly which hardware can continue to be used and which needs to be replaced.

We have various customers in Switzerland who use DiLoc®OnBoard successfully and are happy to answer any questions. Please contact us and we will be happy to pass on contact details.

Monthly costs are incurred per train based on the depth of use of the respective customer. We are therefore unable to give a generalised answer. In contrast to many other providers, no high investment is required.

The connection from the train to the landside is constantly secured and monitored. As a further level of security, connections to the train are only established on request from the train to the landside. Communication is always encrypted.
